Dear Jess,
I am so thankful for all you do for me. For all the weddings you will 2nd shoot this summer. For the cup of milk I had to borrow. And for being such an amazing friend. Also, you are a beautiful beautiful woman, inside and out. I’m so glad I have you in my life! God has truly blessed me with a great friend.

The Me
I cannot believe this is what I do. I have the most fun and rewarding job in the entire world. O.K. so maybe that’s a hyperbole… I don’t cure cancer or save lives or even put out fires (unless it involves that one incident with the toaster oven and cookie dough). But wow. How did this happen? I can’t honestly tell you that there was this aha moment, this moment that I thought “I want to be a photographer!” it just kind of happened. One moment I’m graduating from college with a degree in Public Relations (concentrating in art), and the next I’m a photographer. A wedding photographer!
I have been having a tough time of it lately. Busy on top of busy, bookkeeping on top of bookkeeping (I hate math), an old hand injury that makes it difficult to sleep, let alone edit photographs. I was having a really bad day. Waiting for good news that never seems to come and dealing with a hand that hurts so much it makes my tummy turn. (My hand will get better soon, it will just take some babying.) I didn’t want to have a pity party so I decided to do something for me. I had a glass of wine and took advantage of the BEAUTIFUL light outside. And instead of boring people with the one millionth photo of Coach my dog I did a few self portraits. I didn’t fix my makeup or my hair. I stayed in the tank top and shorts I was wearing around the house and just kept it, for lack of a better word, real. It feels so selfish, but I love how they turned out!
P.S. Make sure you check out my sweet dead basil to the left in front of my canoe
Coach thought I was playing, so I pulled him in for a squishy happy pic

And yes, that is Coach sniffing grass in the background

Elizabeth + Ryan :: Northwest Iowa Wedding Photographer
Wanna hear a great engagement story? Ryan spends a lot of time on the road for his job as a Trucker and he likes to come home to his leftovers. Liz doesn’t like old smelly stuff in the fridge, so she throws leftovers out. Ryan always gives her crap about thinking about a certain leftover all day and then coming home and its gone. One day Ryan came home craving leftover Tacos. He looks in the fridge and insists that Liz threw them out. After joking with her for 30 minutes about her throwing out the tacos she looks in the fridge. She opens a tupperware and just stands there. No words. No movement. No nothing. Ryan had placed a ring in the tupperware and she was speechless. Talk about creative! Please Liz and Ryan, tell me if I murdered your story or left anything out. Either way, its awesome! I’m so excited for your wedding guys!
It was beautiful and foggy the morning of this e-session. So fun!

Do the Stanky Leg :: Wedding Photographer
Hey Y’all! I just wanted to give a shout out to a fun bride from this summer! A side note before I start quoting some awesome lyrics of a song that played at her reception: I photograph in Northwest Iowa and Minneapolis! Yes I am back in the area all! I know being in Texas for a short while may have messed with your heads but I am back full time! The Bridal Showcase in Sioux Center was so wonderful today. I had such a great time seeing you brides and so many familiar faces! Congrats to you all!
Since no blog is good without a picture I will post a picture of Brittnee dancing to this awesome song (lyrics below) Have a rockin weekend!
When I hit the dance floor, you know Im doin the stanky leg. (do it!)
Sauce on my ring (ay) then I rub it ‘cross your head.
You an h boom cool chick you can do it too.
Jack your feet up in the air and check your Myspace too.
Now you can lean wit it,
now you can drop wit it.
You can switch to the other leg and you can stop wit it.
Now get it, get it
Now hit the booty do, hit the booty do
Now you can get wit it, you can get wit it.
Happy planning brides!

Christmas Season :: Share Some Minnesota Warmth!
Believe me. There is someone out there that you will probably meet with in the next couple of weeks that seems absolutely fine. They look like they have everything put together. But chances are that they don’t. Chances are that this holiday season you will run into someone that doesn’t have enough money for gifts. Someone that has to pick between buying formula for their baby or getting food for themselves, or someone who just can’t afford gas this week.
The world is hard on people these days and you never know who is going through the worst of it. So just make sure that you treat everyone you run into this holiday season with an extra bit of warmth. They could be struggling through so much right now and your smile or kind words could make a world of difference to them.
And just because a post isn’t a post without a picture, here is my dog Coach! He’s a rockstar
